Eastern Canada Ag Market Makes Big Comeback

Successful Kent-Chatham auction paves road for March ag event.

Ritchie Bros. has long been established as the primary ag auction company in Western Canada, conducting 100s of farming auctions in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. But recent events have shown we can help customers in Eastern Canada too.

On November 4th, 2020, we held an online auction (with a live auctioneer) from Chatham-Kent, Ontario that featured hundreds of items for sale, including some of the best late-model farming equipment we’ve seen in Canada this year. More than 1,600 global bidders participated in the event, leading to great price realization for sellers.

“We saw a great audience come out,” said Ryan Pottruff, Regional Sales Manager in Toronto. “Bidders from all over the world. Great price realization on 4WD tractors and other core ag assets. The whole event was very well received.”

Some of the highlights from the auction include a 2018 John Deere 8320R that sold for $305,000, a 2018 John Deere S770 sold for $365,000, and a 2014 John Deere 6125R that sold for $84,000.

Ritchie Bros. plants ag flag in Ontario once again

After the successful auction in Chatham, Ryan Pottruff said he heard customers happily proclaim Ritchie Bros. was “back in the ag space” in Ontario. The truth is: we never left.

“Back in 2012, 2013, we made a decision to pull out of Putnam, and the message was that we were out of the ag industry in southern Ontario,” said Pottruff. “It wasn’t true. Ag is big part of what we do, and we will continue to do more in Ontario.

“We now offer more ways to help you sell, whether on the farm or at a Ritchie Bros. location. We want to partner with local farmers and be that trusted advisor. The great thing about Ritchie Bros. is you will get the community auction feel, but with a global presence for consignment.”

Ag sellers in Ontario will get an opportunity in March 2021. Whether on your farm or at our facilities, we want to come to your community this spring
